I don't talk about it much, but I'm secretly very afraid of dying. I'm afraid that God will punish me after I die for all the sins I've committed. How can I get over this fear?

The only way to get over this fear would be for you to know that God had forgiven every sin you had ever committed or ever will commit. If you knew God had completely forgiven you, then there wouldn’t be any reason for you to have fear of death any longer, would there?

But is this possible? Yes!—and the reason is because Jesus Christ has already taken upon Himself the punishment you and I deserve. You see, you are right about one thing: You and I deserve to be punished for our sins. God is holy and just, and even one sin would be enough to banish us from His presence forever. The Bible solemnly warns, “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).

But the Bible doesn’t stop there! It goes on to tell us that God loves us—and because He loves us, He sent His only Son into the world to die for our sins. We deserve to die and be separated from God forever—but Jesus Christ took our place. He was without sin, but when He died on the cross all our sins were placed on Him, and He took the punishment and hell we deserve.

And that is why you don’t have to fear God’s punishment any longer! What must you do? The Bible’s answer is simple: Believe Christ died for you, and then receive Him into your life. Trust Christ and invite Him into your life today—and when you do, God has promised to forgive you, completely and fully.

  1. Linda says:

I also think we need to have a holy reverence for God Almighty. He is holy, greatly to be praised and adored. He is adorable, he is so dear, he is so precious. There truly are no words to describe his magnificence. Thank God for David, or else how could we really praise Him, thank him, understand him. He can’t be described he cannot be explained, he must be revealed. That is a quote from John Ramirez

  2. Linda says:

Thank you for addressing this issue. I have been a Christian many years. I’ve never feared him like I do now. I know he loves me I know I’m saved. But the more I learn about his holiness, is omniscient, is omnipresent. The consequences of the lost. That’s what really gets me is being eternally lost. I cannot fathom that. Everyone I know is full of themselves. And they are stubborn, spiritually bankrupt and blind that’s what scares me. I’m so afraid for them, that it makes me afraid for myself. God is so perfect, it just shakes me to the bone. God bless you Billy Graham, and your entire family. I’ve watched you on TV for years. I continue to pray for you when you cross my mind. May God be with you dearest brother amen

My anxiety level has increased since my son wrecked his second of three cars; I worry about my health (overweight) even though my numbers come back good. I have bad dreams that I wont live long, and it makes me worry about the life to come. It’s supposed to be GLORY, but I need more blessed assurance. I have Christ in my heart, and am depending on Him for all things, including comfort. My spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak, I pray that I and many others will have the comfort of the Holy Spirit!

  4. Jude says:

Please read what JESUS Himself said about the forgiveness of sins: Matthew 12:31-32

  5. Sharon Martell says:

Thank you. When I Google’d my fear, this was the first result and alleviated my fear, even as it reminded me of what I already knew. God bless Billy Graham.

  6. Joe says:

I did what you said in the last paragraph but still am worried that I will punish myself in the next life for my sins.

    1. Sam62 says:

Joe, yes I have done that too, countless times, but fear is still there, and no assurance has come.
