Billy Graham visits the set of World Wide Pictures film, "Man in the 5th Dimension" in 1963.

Q: What was Billy Graham’s film ministry called?

A: World Wide Pictures.

As Billy Graham rose to fame in the 1940s, he caught the eyes of several Hollywood moguls because of his good looks and southern charm. Many wanted to make a movie star out of him, but he knew God had called him to be an evangelist, not an actor.

Still, Billy Graham recognized the power of film for ministry. He often said, “Thousands will come to see a film who would never come to hear a preacher.”

Billy Graham started World Wide Pictures in 1951 to produce full-length films with a spiritual message. These productions were well-made, dramatic and appealing to many who would otherwise not be interested in the Gospel message.

World Wide Pictures produced movies like The Hiding Place, Time to Run and Mr. Texas, and more than two million viewers have indicated decisions for Christ as a result.

Although World Wide Pictures no longer makes movies, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has continued to use cinematography to spread the Gospel—releasing several short films in recent years through My Hope. The videos feature compelling testimonies and powerful messages from Billy and Franklin Graham. Many Christians have used the films to help them share their faith with others.
