Pastor Lon Allison, former executive director of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College, passed away Sunday after a two-year battle with cancer. He was a friend of Billy Graham with a similar heart for the Gospel and spoke at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove, inspiring many with truth from God’s Word.

“He was, by nature, an evangelist, as well as an educator and an encourager,” David Bruce, former executive assistant for Billy Graham, said. “He had an engaging personality, he was a winsome person, a wonderful ambassador for the Gospel.”

Dr. Lon Allison was passionate about mentoring the next generation of church leadership and traveled around the world, teaching evangelism. He taught classes not only for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s School of Evangelism but also at Wheaton College in Illinois, where Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth, graduated.

“Toward the end of Mr. Graham’s life, as Lon was ending his work at the Center,” Bruce said, “Lon came to visit Mr. Graham. It was one of the most wonderful visits Mr. Graham had—a very special time.”

Last year, Lon Allison completed his last book titled Billy Graham: An Ordinary Man and His Extraordinary God.
