Members of the Charleston community prayed together across the street from the scene of a shooting at Emanuel AME Church, Wednesday, June 17, 2015, in Charleston, South Carolina.

After Wednesday night’s mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is joining believers around the nation in praying for the city of Charleston and the family members of the nine people who were killed.

Franklin Graham posted the following statement on his Facebook page, calling for prayer:

Our hearts go out to all the members of Charleston’s Emanuel A.M.E. Church, the families of the victims, and the Charleston community in the wake of last night’s shooting at their Wednesday night prayer meeting. Nine lives tragically lost, including their pastor and South Carolina State Senator, Reverend Clementa Pinckney. Join me in praying for them and that the person responsible will be brought to justice quickly.
