Avalon: Still Going Strong

Avalon, who has been on the Christian music scene for 15 years, shows no signs of slowing down.

“Many people ask us how could a group can really stay interested in ministry that long. We don’t take lightly the fact that people still want to hear us in a concert setting,” said Richardson.

He also says life’s joys and sorrows that the band has endured over the last several months helps them to relate with audiences through transparency.

“Avalon has experienced its own seasons of joy and sorrow. Greg’s father passed away from cancer earlier this year. Within days of his passing, Greg and Janna welcomed their third daughter into the world. Grieving and celebrating – that’s what people in our audiences go through as well. They are met with both every day,”

Their latest project, Reborn, was released a year ago this month, and has been keeping them very busy, in addition to the “real life” that has been taking place among the group members. They are even involved in their local bodies of Christ on a consistent basis.

“We are all in church leadership positions in our respective worship ministries, and we notice a big element of that corporate worship come to life in our concerts,” Richardson explained. “But when we are in our home churches, we want to be there. We don’t hide the fact that we sing with the group, but we don’t want to be known as ‘the couple from Avalon’.”

When Richardson and the others have their concert, he said there will be an opportunity for the audience to request songs. “God has really blessed the group with many No. 1 songs, so it would be a marathon concert to try to work all those in. So, we’ve built a request section into our concert. This gives people a chance to look through the songs that speak to their hearts and spirits, and explain why they want to hear that song,” he said.

“You’ll get answers ranging from ‘the beat’ to ‘this song got me through the time my mom was dying in the hospital’. Ultimately, we just want to see people’s lives changed.”

It’s not too late! You can still register for this event.
