Americans Should Be ‘Praying for All of Our Leaders’

By   •   August 21, 2020

More than 50 percent of Americans have prayed for the COVID-19 crisis to end, according to a Pew Research survey.

This doesn’t seem that surprising until you hear who’s looking to God for help. Sure, many are evangelical Christians; however, some don’t profess any religion. Of this group, 36 percent have prayed about the virus.

The events of 2020 have been a wake-up call for many. Our souls long for God, whether we believe He’s real or not.

The power of prayer is what prompted Franklin Graham to hold a Prayer March in Washington, D.C., on September 26.

“We have no hope, outside of God. We will not make it unless God’s people call on His Name for help,” Franklin Graham recently posted on his Facebook page.

The evangelist’s son, Roy Graham, works with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and clarified what the Prayer March is—and isn’t.

“It’s not a political event,” he explained during a recent interview with Montana’s KCMM 99.1. “We’re asking people to come pray for their nation.”

Will You Pray for 30 Days?

The BGEA is offering another opportunity to seek God through a 30-day prayer guide called Pray for Our Nation. The downloadable guide is free, and contains prayer points and Scripture passages.

“The idea is to be jointly praying for the same thing,” explained Roy Graham. “The Bible says, ‘Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.‘”

The guide helps us focus, he said. It’s also important to ask God for wisdom when we pray.

“I think sometimes we get stuck praying for the same things over and over.”

Reading through the guide, Roy Graham realized it was a great thing to use with his own three children—to teach them to pray for their leaders, whoever they are.

“You might not even agree with your leaders,” he emphasized. “But the Bible is very clear about us praying for all of our leaders.

“God’s still on the throne, and He can change their heart just like he changed mine and yours.”

God can change your heart. Ask Him now.
