Charlotte, N.C. — A daily, one-year reading plan from Billy Graham has launched on the Bible App™ by YouVersion, one of the most popular free apps available for mobile devices. Last week, YouVersion announced that the Bible App™ reached the substantial milestone of 100 million downloads, joining the ranks of other popular apps like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Billy Graham’s one-year reading plan features content from his popular devotion Day by Day, in an easy-to-read, easy-to-share format. YouVersion reports that of its hundreds of available reading plans, more than 9.5 million plans have been completed in the five years the app has been available.
“My grandfather has always been on the cutting edge when it comes to technology,” said Will Graham, grandson of Billy Graham and associate evangelist and vice president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. “He pioneered the use of radio, television and motion pictures in evangelism, and we are seeing a tremendous impact today through the Internet and reaching people on mobile devices. We hope making this content available via YouVersion will help people around the world grow closer in their relationship with God.”
More than 77 percent of YouVersion users report that they read the Bible more frequently because they have it on their mobile device that accompanies them virtually everywhere.
In addition to the availability of Billy Graham’s daily devotion via YouVersion, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has its own app available, featuring devotional content, Billy Graham sermons and television specials, classic Hour of Decision programs and more.
This announcement comes at an important time in Billy Graham’s ministry. This year, Billy Graham is praying and preparing for My Hope with Billy Graham, a grassroots evangelism effort across the United States and Canada which will culminate this November, the month of Graham’s 95th birthday. He has recorded new video that will be a part of evangelistic media programs shared by individuals in homes across the country. With four months remaining, more than 16,000 churches in the United States have registered to participate in My Hope America, with thousands of individuals training online to share their faith with their family and friends.
In addition, on Oct. 15, Thomas Nelson Publishers will release his latest book The Reason for My Hope: Salvation. At the same time, Capitol Christian Music Group will release a music project entitled My Hope: Songs Inspired by the Message and Mission of Billy Graham. Executive produced by Michael W. Smith, the project will include new songs written from the themes of the book. Among the Platinum- and Gold-selling artists included in the project are Newsboys, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant & Vince Gill, Israel Houghton, Darlene Zschech, Kari Jobe, Lacey Sturm, Matthew West and Nicole Nordeman.
