Answer
What does the Bible mean when it says somewhere that we shouldn't take God's name in vain? I suppose this means we shouldn't use what used to be called bad language, but that's gotten so common today that I wonder where we ought to draw the line.
Answer
We were discussing in our class at church who the worst person in the Bible was. Who would you nominate? Maybe it doesn't matter very much, but we've been surprised at how many bad people the Bible mentions.
Answer
I've never read the Bible very much, but I made a New Year's resolution to begin reading it every day, which I've done so far. But to be honest I'm already getting bogged down and don't think I can keep it up. Am I doing something wrong?
Answer
Several months ago, you answered a question from someone with a mild learning disability who has a hard time reading their Bible. I have the same problem, but recently my niece gave me a set of CDs with the Bible in spoken or audio form. It's helped me greatly and maybe it would help this person also.
Answer
For many years my grandmother has read through her Bible once a year, and now she's trying to get me to do the same. I don't want to offend her, but how can I explain to her that I just don't have time for something like this? Maybe it was fine for her but it's not for me.
Answer
My friend (who doesn't believe in God or religion) tells me that if I really believe the Bible, then why don't I follow all the laws in the Old Testament? I do believe the Bible is God's Word, but am I doing something wrong by not following these laws?
Answer
Several weeks ago, a friend and I started going to what is supposed to be a Bible study, but we're not sure if we'll continue. We never really discuss what the Bible says, but mainly sit around sharing our personal problems and then praying about them. What should we do?
Answer
How could John the Baptist have written the Gospel of John, when that same Gospel tells about his death? Maybe I shouldn't get bogged down with questions like this when I try to read my Bible, but I can't help it.
Answer
I made a New Year's resolution to read through the Bible this year, but it didn't last very long. I got so bogged down in the Old Testament that I finally gave up. Is the Old Testament out of date or irrelevant?
Answer
I've tried to read the Bible but it's just too big and I never was much of a reader. Why did God give us such a big book anyway?
Answer
A friend of mine carries a small pocket copy of the New Testament with him all the time. When I asked him about it, he said he carries it because he thinks it will keep bad luck away. Would you suggest everyone do this?
Answer
How much of the Bible is literal and how much of it is a myth? Take Jonah and the whale, for instance. Surely that must be a myth, because I can't imagine anyone being swallowed by a whale and then living to tell about it.
