At the beginning of March, heavy rains caused flooding in the eastern part of Kentucky and submerged many communities—including Breathitt County. The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) has deployed to help with the recovery process by offering emotional and spiritual care to locals.
“It has been a tough year,” said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear after touring the region. “What I saw was the worst flash flooding that I’ve seen in my lifetime.” >> Give to help chaplains share hope amid crises.
Partnering with Samaritan's Purse—a ministry that helps clean up homes after disasters—the chaplains are checking in on those who are mudding out their homes. The team's Mobile Ministry Center, a vehicle that serves as a safe haven for conversations, is parked outside a local church.
“Many homes were flooded, and the need is great for both Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains to offer help and support,” said Jack Munday, director of the BG-RRT. Here, some special belongings are laying outside to dry.
"How are you holding up?" is a common question chaplains ask to help residents open up. In rural Kentucky, they've talked with dozens in the hurting community, telling them how they can have hope beyond the hardships of this life. >> Do you have hope in Jesus? Start a relationship with Him today.
