“To be able to sign a book, or a baseball card, or whatever you have, it’s a joy for me,” Strawberry said. He shared a brief word of encouragement and prayed over the crowd.
Pulling from personal experiences with drug addiction, prison time and cancer battles, Strawberry wrote candidly about the transformative power of prayer and a personal relationship with God in his latest book. >>Read more about Darryl Strawberry’s radical testimony.
There were many New York Mets jerseys at the Library, a nod to one of the teams Strawberry helped lead to a World Series championship.
The author signed jerseys, books, baseball bats, baseball cards, posters and more.
“Not only did God transform my life, He will transform your life,” Strawberry told the crowd. “He’s got a perfect plan for you. No life is wasted with God.”
This wasn’t the baseball icon’s first visit to the Billy Graham Library. Most recently, he dropped by after leading a prayer for compassion, kindness and racial reconciliation during Franklin Graham’s Prayer March in September 2020. “I’ve never experienced the presence and the power of God in such a way,” he shared. “That was the greatest experience I’ve ever had in life … to see Christians come together to pray."
The once-feared slugger now runs his own ministry and has opened several rehabilitation centers for young adults.
