Chaplains Serve Community After Police Officer Fatally Shot in Richardson, TX
Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains
are ministering to the community of Texas police officer David Sherrard, who was fatally shot in the line of duty while responding to a call in an apartment complex. Here, husband and wife chaplains Desi and Carolin Perez comfort friends of the slain officer.
Many from the Richardson community, a suburb of Dallas, came to honor the fallen Texas police officer, and are depending on faith and prayer during this difficult time.
A memorial full of notes, flowers and memorabilia has been set up in front of the Richardson Police Department to honor the life of Officer Sherrard.
Offering a listening ear to a family who visited the memorial.
Chaplains have offered a ministry of presence at the memorial site, comforting and praying with the continuous flow of passersby.
"The community is really devastated," said chaplain Carolin Perez. "They're walking through something they've never experienced before." Officer Sherrard was the first officer killed on duty in the 63-year history of the department, which includes a force of 200 officers.
Chaplains pray with first responders, offering them
stability in Christ
in the midst of crisis.
A candlelight vigil was held to honor Officer Sherrard's life on Sunday.
Chaplain Desi Perez prays during the service. Please continue to lift up loved ones and friends of Officer Sherrard, along with all first responders who serve us daily.
