Open Our Eyes Before It Is Too Late

By   •   March 28, 2013

The Boy Scouts of America recently announced that they were reconsidering their long-standing policy against admitting homosexuals into their ranks.

The Scouts have been under fire by liberal activists for years, and a reversal of their policy would demonstrate just how much pressure our politically correct culture has placed on institutions to conform to their corrupt values. This is an organization that has stood for moral integrity for over a century.

The tide of immorality has risen to new heights.

Throughout history, true Christians have usually been in the cultural minority. Jesus said that the world would “hate” us (John 15:18). In many countries around the world, hatred and bloodshed are the norm, as followers of Jesus Christ are hounded and persecuted for their faith.

Here in America where men and women of deep and abiding faith helped settle and found our great nation, the notion of Christians as a persecuted minority is difficult to fathom.

Thankfully, there are still millions of born-again, committed Christians across America who live by and practice the precepts of biblical Christianity. They are Gospel salt and light in cities, towns and communities that otherwise would be overwhelmed by the powers of darkness.

The great challenge of our day for Christians is to stand fast on the unchanging truths of Scripture, refusing to compromise with the beguiling, false doctrines of our deceived, godless culture.

The Bible says that we are not to be “conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is” (Romans 12:2, NASB). It doesn’t matter how the world defines the pressing issues of the day. Our mind and conscience must be informed by the Word of God, and unbending to the truth.

In the Old Testament, one of David’s mighty men, Shammah, was surrounded by a group of Philistines. Even when all the Hebrew people fled, Shammah stood his ground. “But he [Shammah] took his stand in the midst of the plot, defended it, and struck the Philistines; and the Lord brought about a great victory” (2 Samuel 23:11-12, NASB).

The Philistines represent any culture that is opposed to God and His ways. Now more than ever, it is imperative that believers in Jesus Christ live in uncompromising obedience to the Truth. If we retreat in fear and timidity, then we may not see the triumph that God may bring as His people call on His Mighty Name.

Some may feel as if it is too late for America; that we have fallen too deep into the slippery pits of hedonism and secularism. But I still believe that Almighty God hears and responds to the bold faith of praying, trusting saints. Then there is hope that we can turn and repent of our sin, and once again enjoy God’s gracious favor.

I do believe the window of time is very short, before God’s judgment falls heavily upon us. May the “kindness of God [that] leads [us] to repentance” (Romans 2:4) open our eyes before it is too late.  ©2013 BGEA

  2. Daniel says:

I’m from a Christian family and I have been learning of God every day, but during a period I was apart of God, I mean I had no personal relationship with him. So I fell to the world of homosexuality. It’s hard to battle this kind of bad behavior, but I trust in Jesus. I’m just sad because the Christians accept this when they don’t study how to help others christians to solve this problems. It brings fellows to go out the house of God and get lost. Condemnation and acceptance are not the way, but transformation by the sanctity of the holyspirit. There is no one else for me, none but Jesus.
