A Wild Vine

By Ruth Bell Graham   •   December 7, 2007

Beyond all custom
all tradition,
Lord, I would see
Your truth revealed;
then I could come,
in my condition,
to seek Your face,
and by Your grace
be healed.
What I confess
You have long known;
… acknowledge the gross mess
that my sins have grown
like some wild
poisonous vine,
enmeshing other lives
with mine.
“Just As I Am”
to me confirms
that none but You
would take one on such terms.

For only You
Who went the length
of Calvary
could know
the cost
of such forgiving love,
redeeming strength,
or show
Satan and his hordes
justice has been done.

While I
defeated by that cross
freed from his cords,
glory in my loss
for You have won!

And for all those
my sins have wounded
on the way
I plead Your special help:
for them I pray.
