A Cambodian girl named Boun grew up on a houseboat in a floating village, where she suffered abuse at the hands of several family members. Around age 6 or 7, she became deathly ill. Instead of taking her to the doctor, her father was content to let her die.
She eventually went to live in a safe house for girls run by Christians. After all she had been through, Boun struggled to understand God’s love. That changed after she received a pair of flip-flops and a stuffed animal as a gift from someone in another country.
