Where is the Golden Rule found in the Bible? I know that we're supposed to live by the Golden Rule but I want to be sure I know exactly what it says.

The brief statement that we often call the “Golden Rule” was spoken by Jesus, and you can find it in Matthew 7:12. Here is what it says: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Although Jesus’ words seem simple, in reality they are very difficult to put into action. No matter how hard we try, all too often we fall short and fail to treat others the way we know we should. Why is that? One reason is because we get so wrapped up in our own lives that we fail to see the needs of others. To put it another way, we only think of our own needs, and not the needs of those around us. We find ourselves saying with the Apostle Paul, “I have the desire to do what is good but I cannot carry it out” (Romans 7:18).

What is the problem? The Bible says that our real problem is that we are sinners. Sin—like a deadly cancer—has invaded our souls, making us weak and unable to do what is right. And that is why we need Christ, because He came into the world to forgive us and save us from sin’s power.

Don’t try to live the way you should in your own strength. Instead, ask Christ to come into your life to cleanse you and save you. Then ask Him to give you a new love for others, and to help you treat them the way you would want to be treated. How different our world would be if everyone did!

Thank you SO much for giving your life in service to the Lord, our Saviour and King! I grew up on “Billy Graham.” I remember my mother and I would watch together through the 70’s, and what a special memory God blessed me with! 🙂 How I miss seeing Dr. Graham. What a blessed gift you have allowed the Lord to give through your service. May God, our Father, bless you so much, that your storehouses won’t contain them all.

Much love to the entire Graham family.

    Your sister in Christ,

    Mary R. Lang

Thank you! I needed to know the original source for myself and for my students’ sake. I have just read this in Luke 31, and recollect it being said in Mark and Matthew, but didn’t know where. I simply wanted to know exactly where it was written originally. We sinners do need repeated studies in The Word to keep us reminded, don’t we. Thank God for The Bible!

I have just become aware of The Golden Rule of Jesus in the last few days. I have been emotionally abused by some of husband’s family. They do the most severest type of abuse they Stonewall me. I read “Anyone who says they hate their brother or sister who they see and love God who they haven’t seen is a liar” We love our fellow man as we love God. It is the same love. There isn’t 2 different loves. To watch a couple of the way my husbands family makes me sick! They are very religious people. They know what they are doing. I know to disrespect a person like this is a Direct Violation of The Golden Rule of Jesus. I know nobody likes everyone. People should treat everybody equally. from a murderer to a grandmother. Love and Respect for everyone.
