Q:

A friend of mine says that when Jesus told His followers there are mansions in heaven, He was only talking about the places God has reserved for the angels. If this is true, what kind of home will we have in heaven?

A:

No doubt your friend is sincere, but his information about heaven is not correct at this point. The Bible does not teach that heaven contains special places that have been reserved only for the angels but not for us.

In fact, the Bible clearly promises that someday every believer will share in heaven’s glory, and that heaven’s “mansions” (an old English word that is usually translated today as “rooms” or “dwelling places”) are set apart for God’s people. Jesus told His disciples, “In my Father’s house are many rooms (or “mansions”); if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).

This is a great truth, and one that should encourage us every day. Think of it: If you know Christ, someday you will enter your heavenly home! All the cares and sorrows of this life will be over, and you will be safely in God’s presence forever! This life is temporary; heaven will be forever. This life is imperfect; heaven will be perfect. This life is full of heartache and pain; in heaven we will know only peace and joy.

The real question, however, is this: Do you know you will go there when you die? You can, by committing your life to Jesus Christ and trusting Him alone for your salvation. Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved” (John 10:9, KJV). Open your heart to Him today.
