Q:

Why didn't God just destroy the human race and start all over again, after Adam and Eve rebelled against Him? In fact, why doesn't He go ahead and destroy the human race now? We sure don't live the way He wants us to live.

A:

No, we don’t live the way God created us to live; we have rebelled against Him and gone our own way. Even when we know what is right, we still resist God and leave Him out of our lives. As the Bible says, “All have turned away … there is no one who does good, not even one” (Romans 3:12).

Why, then, doesn’t God simply destroy us (as you suggest)? The reason is because He loves us, and in spite of our sin and our rebellion, He yearns for us to come to know Him and become part of His family forever. The proof is that Jesus Christ came down from Heaven to make our salvation possible. He did this by becoming the final and complete sacrifice for our sins through His death on the cross. Would He have done this if God didn’t love us and want to save us? No, not at all.

Does this mean God isn’t concerned about our sins and will never judge them? No, it doesn’t. God is holy and just, and sin is an offense to Him. And some day Christ will come at the end of the present age to bring judgment on all who have rejected God.

But in the meantime, God calls us to repent of our sins and give our lives to Christ—because He loves us. Commit your life to Him today. The Bible says, “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
