Q:

If you had to put the heart of what you believe about God into just one sentence, what would you say? Or is that possible?

A:

In some ways it’s not possible, of course, to put everything about God into one sentence. God is infinite, and we’ll never fully understand His greatness—not on this side of eternity. The Apostle Paul exclaimed, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! … Who has known the mind of the Lord?” (Romans 11:33-34).

But if I had to summarize in one sentence what I believe about God, I would simply say that God loves us, in spite of our sin and rebellion—and the proof is that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to make it possible for us to become part of His family forever. The Bible puts it far better than I can: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Have you ever stopped to consider just how great this message is? Think of it: God loves us—in spite of the way we’ve neglected Him and rebelled against Him. He loves us so much that He came down from Heaven in the person of His Son, Jesus, who gave His life for us. The Bible says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

What does this mean to you? Have you responded to God’s love by committing your life to Christ? Don’t let another day go by without Him, but by faith open your heart and life to Christ without delay.
