Q:

Have you ever seen God? What did He look like? I have never seen God, but I think He probably looks kind of like my grandfather. Am I right? I am 10 years old.

A:

Thank you for your email—and I’m grateful you are curious about God. I hope you’ll want to know more and more about Him as you grow older, because He cares about you very much, and He wants to be your friend.

No, I have never seen God, nor has anyone else—because God is far greater than anything we can ever imagine. We see glimpses of Him when we look at the world around us—but He is far greater than this, and we’d be completely overwhelmed if we could actually see Him. And we can’t see God for another reason: He doesn’t have a body like we do. God is a spirit, the Bible tells us, which means He can be everywhere at the same time.

But the most important thing I can tell you about God is this: 2,000 years ago God came down from Heaven and became a man! That man was Jesus Christ. Do you want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus—because He was God! The Bible says, “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (John 1:18).

God loves us; He loves us so much that He came down from Heaven to forgive us for the wrong things we’ve done, and then take us to Heaven someday—where we’ll see God in all of His glory. My prayer is that you will ask Jesus to come into your heart and life today.

Ask Jesus to come into your heart.
