I've often struggled with depression, and even when I'm OK it's always lurking around the corner ready to knock me down. I know it's because I had an abusive childhood, but just knowing it doesn't solve everything. Could God make any difference to me?

No matter what problems we face in life, isn’t it better to face them with God than without Him? Of course it is — because God loves us and wants to help us.

After all, God knows all about your past. He knows the problems you’ve faced over the years, but God not only knows about them, but He also wants to help you do something about them. God doesn’t abandon us or expect us to solve all our problems on our own; He loves us and wants us to turn to Him and seek His help. The Bible’s promise is true: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

How can God help you? First, your life will never be the same once you realize that God loves you. He loves you so much that He sent His Son into the world to give His life for you. Others may have betrayed or abused you — but God never will. By a simple prayer of faith, accept His love into your heart by asking Christ to come into your life today.

Then ask God to surround you with people who will love you and help you grow closer to God. Ask God to lead you to a church where Christ is preached, and where you can find people who know what it means to put the Bible’s words into action: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).

  3. Robin says:

I’m struggling with depression and feeling hopeless with a loss of zest for life. I’m divorced and wonder if I will ever meet someone again. I have a child but when he is not with me I”m lost. I try to go to church but feel that terminal uniqueness about me and being a single parent is not making me feel to great. How can I overcome all the fears and worry about what others think of me. I accepted Christ as a teenager as my savior and have not walked the talk of faith. Now I’m in a muddle of depression and isolation. Any suggestions?
