Q:

I'm really scared because I just got the results from my medical tests and I've got inoperable cancer with less than a year to live. I've always avoided thinking about death but I can't dodge it any longer, and I know I'm not ready to die. Is it too late to get ready to meet God?

A:

No, it isn’t too late for you to get ready to meet God—and I pray you’ll take this seriously, because some day soon you will enter eternity and stand in His presence. The Bible warns, “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

How can you be ready? There is only one way—and that is through faith in Jesus Christ. Why is this true? The reason is because only one thing separates us from God, and that is our sin. But God loves us in spite of our sin, and He sent Jesus Christ into the world to take away our sins. By His death on the cross He became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins, and all we must do is trust Him alone for our salvation. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

What must you do? First, admit that you are a sinner, and that you need God’s forgiveness. Then turn to Christ and ask Him to come into your life as your Lord and Savior. By a simple prayer of faith commit your life to Jesus today.

Then thank God that you now belong to Him. Think of it: You are now God’s child! Draw strength from that truth every day—and rejoice that some day soon you will be with Him in heaven forever.

Find peace with God today.
