Q:

How do I know God answers prayers, even if nothing happens? I've asked God to give me a sign that He is hearing me, but He hasn't. Sometimes I even wonder if it's worth it to keep on praying.

A:

Prayer is one of our greatest privileges as God’s children, and even if God doesn’t seem to answer your prayers at first, don’t stop praying. God loves you, and no prayer goes unanswered.

Jesus once told a story about a poor widow who repeatedly asked a corrupt judge to do what was right. (You can read it in Luke 18:1-8.) Repeatedly the judge refused–not because her request was wrong, but because he just didn’t care. But because of her persistence, he eventually gave in and granted her what she deserved. In a far greater way, Jesus said, God (who is righteous and does care for us) hears the prayers of His people, and we must never give up.

But let me add two things. First, realize that sometimes God is actually answering our prayers when we don’t realize it–and the reason is because His answer may be “No” or “Wait.” Yes, we think we know what’s best for us–but God sees the whole picture, and sometimes He lovingly refuses to give us what we request, because He knows it isn’t according to His perfect plan.

Second, remember that we have the privilege of coming to God only because Jesus Christ died for our sins. Have you given your life to Him? If not, let your first prayer be one of confession and faith, asking Him to come into your life as your Lord and Savior.

I need prayer. For 4 weeks, my family and I have been without electricity in our home. I have prayed for God to please help us but my prayers aren’t answered. Please pray for us.

God does hear our prayers as 4 months ago my daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and she was so sick and things seemed hopeless.Lots of prayers and the best treatment with chemotherapy has put her on a different path. Things are looking up and her last full body scan showed #1 the cancer has not spread and #2 the treatment is working as the tumors in her liver are shrinking. I believe it has everything to do with prayer. We are continuing praying and chemo, and she has a long road ahead but things are looking up and we are grateful to God for taking such good care of her.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve been praying for as long as I can remember, but not even one prayer has ever been answered. I no longer trust that God hears my prayers or at least recognizes me and my children. I feel like there’s a barrier between me and my prayers. I give up. I’m born again since 2006.

Hi, Thandiwe! I stumbled across this thread and felt led to tell you that He sees you! He loves you! He knows the cry of your heart. Don’t let Satan discourage you from seeking Him. Seek His face. He wants you to draw closer to Him, to feel His presence and hear His heartbeat. Push past your frustration and crawl onto your Father’s lap.

Thank you for your post as it has given me some hope and also information. I am a non-practicing catholic who currently does not attend any church but after reading your post I realized that I need to as God to come into my life and confess my sins and ask for his forgiveness. Once again thank you!

I have been praying for over a year and a half and I am still praying. I know God heard me and that I must be patient, and God answers prayers on his time, not ours. So keep praying and don’t give up. Good luck to you.

Christianity is not 1 size fits all. We all got our own lot in life that the Lord has given us. We are the body of Christ, but each part of the body has its own function..

When I couldn’t pray, I went to a Bible based church and a lady prayed for me… Sometimes when we not strong enough to pray for ourselves God will send his people to pray for you, I’m now strong to pray for myself and others.
