How can you forgive someone who's really hurt you, and yet they don't even realize it? My business partner was lazy and it eventually destroyed our company, but he still blames it all on the economy. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I'd forgiven him, because I can't.

Forgiving someone who has deeply hurt us — no matter what they did — is one of the hardest things some of us will ever do. It’s so hard, in fact, that I don’t believe we can really do it without God’s help. But with God’s help we can — and I pray you’ll discover this truth for yourself as you learn to forgive this person.

What is the key? The key is to understand how God has forgiven us. We don’t deserve to be forgiven; we’ve rebelled against God and turned our backs on Him, and there’s no reason why He should forgive us for our sins. Even if we think we’re fairly good, we still aren’t worthy of God’s forgiveness. As the Bible says, “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10).

And yet God reaches out and offers to forgive us — not because we deserve it, but simply because of His grace and mercy and love. His grace is so great that He sent His Son into the world to pay the price for our redemption. If God forgave us in spite of our sin, shouldn’t we forgive others the same way? The Bible says, “Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).

Don’t hold on to your bitterness and anger any longer — for they’ll become a poison to your soul. Instead, ask God to forgive you for your own sins — and then ask Him to help you forgive this person and put the past behind you.

  2. Mori Scheer says:

Again, thank you. All I could focus on the last couple of months was the insults that cut to my heart and how I felt so betrayed by someone I never would think could hurt me that way. Once again, I have no other choice than to forgive as I’ve been forgiven.

My sister-in-law has over the years caused so much financial burden on my parents, her husband, her parents and now her autistic son. She can’t seem to stop the spiral going out of control. She is in denial. Spending monies she does not have. She is so out of control, I need guidance to deal with this, where to go, how to get help. Can’t talk to her, she shuts down completely, lying is her only means of solving her issues. She can never take responsibility for her actions, such a tragedy for the family around her. I truly want to help but she points fingers so quickly. Help me Lord please

My husband has an off mgr who has crossed multiple boundaries with my husband. My husband does not want her to quit so says nothing. But I can’t accept her behavior. I’ve decided to meet with her and say that it should be a professional relationship and not something that can ruin his reputation. She wants the friendly relationship we’ve had in the past. I can’t give her that after what’s happened but will have a professional one since I am involved with some office duties. Meeting with her in two days and need fervent prayers pls that are coming from the Holy Soirit. It’s a delicate situation and I can’t do it without His help. Thank you for your prayers. I also need to forgive and this article shows me how. Thank you so much.

When I start feeling angry over a past event, I find it helpful to pray, then turn my mind and activity to something positive. For me, gardening can be very helpful.
