Q:

Do we ever reach the point that God just gives up on us? I think maybe that's what's happened to me, and I guess I can't blame God after the way I've ignored Him all these years.

A:

The Bible does warn us against becoming so indifferent (or even hostile) toward God that we can no longer hear His voice. Just as our hands can become calloused and insensitive if something hard repeatedly rubs against them, so our hearts can become hardened and insensitive toward God. The Bible warns, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15).

I seriously doubt, however, if you have reached that point — because if you had, you wouldn’t even be asking me this question. When someone is totally hardened toward God, they aren’t even concerned about their spiritual state, nor do they worry about their standing before God or their eternal destiny. They are like the man of whom Jesus spoke, “who neither feared God nor cared about men” (Luke 18:2).

Down inside you, I believe, is a little voice urging you turn to God before it’s too late — and that little voice is the voice of God. Don’t ignore Him any longer, but turn to Him and confess that you have sinned and left Him out of your life. Then by faith ask Jesus Christ to come into your life to cleanse you of your sins and give you the gift of eternal life.

After all, on the cross every sin you ever committed was placed on Christ, and He took upon Himself the judgment you deserve. Why delay any longer? No matter what your past has been, your future can be different — because of Christ. Give your life to Him today.
