I admit I haven't been a very good husband, and finally my wife walked out on me a few months ago. It really shook me, and now I'm sure I'll be different. But how can I get my wife to take me back? She doesn't believe me when I say I've changed.

I don’t know your full situation, of course, but can you honestly blame your wife for being skeptical? You’ve probably told her before — perhaps dozens of times — that you’d change your ways, and yet apparently you never did. Good intentions must be followed by good deeds.

I don’t say this to discourage you, however. In fact, I’m thankful for your decision to try to be reconciled to your wife, and that you want to be a better husband. Only time will tell whether or not this will be possible. I want to assure you, however, that God gave marriage to us, and He wants to bless us through our marriages.

No matter what the future holds, I pray you’ll make an even more important decision to be reconciled to God. God loves you and wants to come into your life and give you the inner spiritual strength to love others the way you should. Begin a new life today by turning to Jesus Christ, asking Him to forgive your sins, and then committing your life and your future into His hands.

Then pray that God will work in your wife’s heart and life, as well. Yes, it may be too late, but even if it seems to be, she still needs Christ. No matter what the future holds, take comfort in the promises of God’s Word: “There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off” (Proverbs 23:18).
