Q:

Our church is talking about its budget for the next fiscal year, and they want to increase the amount they're giving to missionaries in other countries. But don't those countries have their own religion? Why should we impose our faith on them?

A:

Missionaries don’t “impose” or “force” their faith on anyone; they simply give people a choice they may never have had before. If they’ve never known about Christ before learning of Him through a missionary, they then have an opportunity to become His followers.

But why should we bother giving them this opportunity? One reason is because of who Christ was. He wasn’t just a great religious teacher; the Bible tells us He was God in human flesh! In other words, God came down to earth and became a man — and that man was Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form” (Colossians 2:9).

But Jesus Christ came into the world for a very important reason: to save us from our sins. Sin separates us from God — but Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross for us, and now we can be forgiven and reconciled with God. The Bible says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life” (John 3:36). Why wouldn’t we want to tell others about Christ?

I urge you first of all to examine your own heart and life — and if you’ve never clearly committed your life to Jesus Christ, I pray you will do so today. Then ask God to help you see the world the way He sees it — and to do whatever you can to help others hear about Jesus Christ and commit their lives to Him.
