One teen girl at the Edmonton Rock the River Tour West event was there because her sister invited her. Saturday was her first time listening to the music by these particular bands, but she enjoyed it. She also has a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ.
“When he (Franklin Graham) talked about knowing you’re ready to accept Jesus, but you still turn your back on Him, that caught my attention. I haven’t been giving Him the best of me,” she said. “The heart of my prayer is asking God for forgiveness. I know his love is great. I’ve been turning away from him, but now I want Him to be the center of my life.”
“Seeing all of the people going up there to accept Christ is just incredible,” said 17-year-old Tianna Heltman, an Edmonton high school student who worked as a volunteer during Saturday’s Rock the River Tour West event at Telus Field. “I love how this event can change so many lives by reaching people where they are and in a way that makes sense to them.”
Franklin Graham said, “This is what it’s all about…preaching God’s Gospel. We’re battling for the souls of young people.”

When a rainbow appeared over Telus Field this afternoon, Franklin Graham noted that rainbows are a sign of a new beginning. “You can have a new beginning today,” he continued. “You can be set free from drug addiction, alcohol addiction and sex addiction. God wants to rain down his blessing on you. You don’t have the power to change your life. Only Jesus Christ can change your life.”

Edmonton Churches Unite for the Gospel
“We have about 180 churches involved in Rock the River, whether they are coming to meetings, or sending people to training,” said BJ Rogers, BGEA Rock the River Tour West Director for Edmonton. “Many of those churches are made up of various ethnic groups who have partnered with BGEA to bring the Gospel to Edmonton. This city is full of people from all kinds of backgrounds, from just about every place in the world.”

Rock the River’s Lecrae on His Calling
Growing up on the south side of Houston, Lecrae Moore was raised by a single mother and heavily influenced by relatives who were gang members. “I was brought up in hip hop culture, and I idolized my uncles, who were involved in gangs. I even wanted every tattoo those uncles had. I just sat on their laps and soaked it all in.”

‘They Are Looking For Hope’
On Saturday, August 28, thousands of young people gathered at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta to hear high-energy music from bands like Flyleaf, Downhere and Hawk Nelson while Franklin Graham delivered intermittent Gospel messages. Many local Christian leaders and youth are hoping this event, called Rock the River Tour West, is the beginning, and not the end, of a spiritual awakening in Edmonton.
