It’s been 20 years since Brent Dusing fell in love with his first Nintendo game console, but he still can’t shake that feeling. Super Mario collecting coins. Shooting down pipes. Jumping into mushrooms.

“My generation grew up on video games,” said Dusing, the founder and CEO of Lightside Games. “I played games every day. And if it wasn’t video games, it was board games or card games. Really, any kind of games.”

But as a follower of Christ, and now a contributor to society, Dusing wondered just how he could infuse his love of games with a biblical worldview. And make a living.

“I felt a calling by God to make Christian video games,” Dusing said.

The idea was simple enough, but the 2001 Harvard grad wrestled with the concept of how to pull it off. And who would be interested.

Then in 2004, he saw Passion of the Christ, the Mel Gibson movie nominated for three Academy Awards, and it changed his thinking.

“If you could build a great product with high-quality production that was biblically authentic, you could really have something special,” Dusing said.

Over a decade later, Dusing’s vision has come to fruition by the name of Stained Glass, which launches today (March 12) worldwide.

Stained Glass is a match-three game in which you restore shattered glass into breathtaking art to unlock the greatest story ever told through beautiful matte-painted scenes around the characters of Eve, Noah, Moses and more.

It’s the latest offering from Lightside Games, the leading Christian game publisher, which has reached over 7 million players worldwide in over 200 countries with its games like Journey of Jesus, Journey of Moses and Noah’s Ark.

But what makes Stained Glass unique is that it’s the first Lightside Games standalone mobile game you can download from the App Store (iOS) or Google play (Android). The previous games were Facebook based.

“Stained Glass is the best product that we’ve ever made. We expect to see millions and millions of people around the world play this game,” Dusing said. “We’ve done our best to follow God’s leading.”

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association continues its partnership with Lightside Games, providing answers to spiritual questions, which can lead gamers to a personal relationship with Christ through its online Search for Jesus ministry. Gamers will see four questions on the game’s menu screen, which will take them to biblically based answers and a Gospel presentation where they can either ask more questions or indicate a decision for Christ.

“It doesn’t replace Scripture, of course, but we hope it helps people engage in a new way and ask questions,” Dusing said.

Thus far, more than 150,000 Lightside Games players have been driven to the BGEA’s online evangelism website, PeaceWithGod.net, with over 15,000 digital decisions recorded.

“We’re trying to engage people in God’s story and to reach people who otherwise might not be reached,” Dusing said. “That’s why we’re partnering with BGEA.”

It’s also a rare game that is fun, uplifting and something the entire family will enjoy, representing 13 major stories from the Bible with future stories, characters and levels to be released down the road.

“There’s all these games in the App Store that are neutral to negative,” Dusing said. “But there’s nothing out there with a biblical view.”

Stained Glass is a free download with in-app purchase options. It launches worldwide in English and will later roll out in eight other languages—Spanish, German, French, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish and Bahasa Indonesian.
