First Stop: Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge is the first stop on BGEA’s Rock the River Tour, a new event that brings some of today’s top Christian hard rock and hip-hop artists together to reach a lost generation with a positive message of hope from Franklin Graham.

Artists scheduled for Baton Rouge include FlyLeaf, Red, Hawk Nelson, SuperChick, Canton Jones, Mary Mary and more.

Pastors across the area are excited about the tour. Roddy Conerley, executive director of the Baptist Association of Baton Rouge, says the city’s pastors want to give youth alternatives to violence and crime.

“In transitioning neighborhoods and school systems, prejudice still exists, although it’s not as strong now as when my generation came up,” he explains. “Music is one of those things that binds all kids together.”

“Franklin Graham is respected cross the board in denominations,” Conerley adds. “This could be a point whereby our churches – across denominational lines – can create an organized effort at reaching the youth. We look forward to the opportunity to following up with the decisions that will be made by these youth to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.”
