Billy Graham will be the focus of a one-day conference — “Billy Graham and Modern Evangelism,” exploring the evangelist’s legacy on Jan. 24 at Gordon-Conwell Seminary, the Bible college he cofounded in Charlotte, N.C.

Jean Graham Ford and Leighton Ford—Billy Graham’s sister and brother-in-law—will be interviewed by Duke Divinity School’s Grant Wacker at 6:45 p.m.

“Billy Graham was the most important figure on the American religious scene in the half century that followed World War II,” Wacker said. “His personality, presence and image were keys to the growth of modern evangelicalism.

The free event, not sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, will run from 2 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and begins with a 50-minute video, “A Gathering of Souls: The Billy Graham Crusades.”

Other sessions include “Billy Graham and American History” by Wacker and “Reflections on the Life and Ministry of Billy Graham,” by Garth Rossell, a Gordon-Conwell professor from the Massachusetts campus.

Edith Blumhofer, director of Wheaton College’s Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals explores the music behind Billy Graham’s ministry with “Singing to Save: George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows.”

The conference—geared toward clergy, seminarians and other students—will conclude with a reception and chance to speak with the panel members.
