Grammy And Dove Nominees Top List Of Artists Performing At The Cove In 2009
Musical guests will make one-night appearances at Cove beginning Saturday
April 1, 2009 -- If you missed Grammy and Dove nominee Mandisa on the sixth season of American Idol, then you can certainly check her out in person later this year at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville. Mandisa, an Idol finalist in 2006, is one of the many “stars” in the Christian music industry that will perform for small audiences in The Cove’s intimate auditorium for one-night events, “An Evening at The Cove,” in 2009.
“Since we began these informal, yet personal evenings of music and dinner at The Cove several years ago, we’ve been blessed to have many talented artists perform on our stage,” said Scott Holmquist, executive director of The Cove. “But this is the first year that we really have a variety of artists that provide something for all ages.”
Included in the 2009 line-up are Grammy nominee and multi-Dove Award winners Point of Grace, and Grammy nominee NewSong. The 2009 Evenings at The Cove begin Saturday, April 4, with a performance by Christian recording artist, Bebo Norman.
“My goal is that it would feel like we are in a living room rather than in any kind of a concert hall,” said Norman in regards to his concert at The Cove. “I hope that it would feel like an honest conversation about life and faith and failure and hope – those things we all deal with.”
There are nine “An Evening at The Cove” events in 2009, featuring dinner and a musical performance. Guests also have the option of staying at one of The Cove’s two inns for an additional cost. Reservations for lodging or the event can be made by calling 828-950-2092 or by visiting www.billygraham.org/thecove.
Located within the Blue Ridge Mountains and envisioned by Billy and Ruth Graham, The Cove serves as a mountain-retreat providing Christian training and teaching by world-renowned speakers and authors, as well as musical events throughout the year. Numerous hiking trails, a chapel and visitor’s center, bookstore, and meeting rooms can also be seen at The Cove.
Beginning on April 6, various teaching segments from The Cove's seminar ministry will be aired in the program "Billy Graham Presents An Evening at The Cove" on a new Billy Graham SIRIUS Satellite program airing daily on Channel 161 (FamilyNet radio), Monday through Friday, from 7 to 8 p.m. EST
The Cove will host its community “Open House” day on May 9. Open to the public, the day will provide an opportunity for area residents to visit the campus.
