Franklin Graham Accepts Invitation From Local Leaders to Hold Festival in Charleston

Lowcountry Franklin Graham Festival to Be Held at the North Charleston Coliseum, September 19-21, 2008

CHARLESTON, S.C., January 17, 2008 -- Franklin Graham and team members from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association were in Charleston today to accept an invitation from local church and civic leaders to hold the Lowcountry Franklin Graham Festival at the North Charleston Coliseum, September 19-21, 2008.

“I look forward to bringing a message of hope to Charleston,” said Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. “People will hear a lot of music from award-winning artists, personal testimonies, and most importantly, an opportunity to accept a challenge that will change their lives.”

More than 225 clergy and church leaders from the Greater Charleston area attended the Festival announcement meeting today at the North Charleston Coliseum’s Performing Arts Center. Mr. Paul Everett and Mr. Curtis Bostic were named co-chairmen of the General Festival Committee and will oversee the Festival preparation process.

“I believe that God is going to do exciting things in the Charleston region over the next several months and years,” said Art Bailey, festival director with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. “A Festival isn’t just an event, it’s a process, and the time between now and September will be full of exciting opportunities for this community.”

The General Festival Committee, comprised of local volunteers from the Greater Charleston area, will assist in the planning and operation of the Lowcountry Franklin Graham Festival. For several months, area pastors and church leaders have urged Franklin Graham to conduct a Festival in their region.

All Festival programs will be open to the public and free of charge.

Since 1989, Franklin Graham has held an average of seven Festivals each year. Graham is also president and CEO of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse.

2008 Franklin Graham Festivals include events in Knoxville, Tenn.; Timisoara, Romania; Villahermosa, Mexico; Belfast, Ireland; and Taipei, Taiwan.
