Divine Artistry

Dr. Edward Judson, in speaking of the life of his father, Adoniram Judson, at the dedication of the Judson Memorial Church in New York City, said, “Suffering and success go together. If you are succeeding without suffering, it is because others before you have suffered; if you are suffering without succeeding, it is that others after you may succeed.”

Happy are they that mourn. They can be happy because they know that their pain, their distress, and their privation are the travail of a new creation, the birth pangs of a better world. They can be happy if they are aware that the Master Artist, God, is employing both light and shadow to produce a masterpiece worthy of divine artistry.

They can also glory in their infirmities, smile through their tears, and sing in the midst of their sorrow, because they realize that in God’s economy, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him.”

Prayer for the day

pray that I can find Peace with God I suffer because I recently lost my Grandson a Marine, that was killed by a hit and run driver while helping a stranded motorist near the base where he was stationed . I can not under stand Why? I feel so much pain & anger this is just so wrong, why did God not protect him?

    1. BGEA says:

      Hi Judy,
We are so sorry to hear about your grandson’s death. It is understandable to feel confused, angry and horrified. Such acts are further proof that Satan is indeed at work in our lives and that evil is no stranger to us. At the same time, we can use the opportunity to look inward. We live in a fallen world where we all sin and where we are all in need of a Savior. Even when we can’t understand why something so terrible has happened, we can find hope in knowing that with Christ, we are guaranteed eternal life free of suffering. Christ not only gives us hope, but helps us through hard times by comforting us in our grief, surrounding us with supportive people and allowing us to feel His presence in our lives.

We must also remember that no matter what terrible things people have done, God loves them and asks us to forgive as we have been forgiven. He understands our pain, grieves with us and has compassion on us, but also asks us to set a Christlike example.
