The Sufficiency of Christ

November 22, 2013

The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking; he rescues those who are humbly sorry for their sins.
–Psalm 34:18 (TLB)

In God’s economy, you must go down into the valley of grief before you can scale the heights of spiritual glory. You must become tired and weary of living alone before you seek and find the fellowship of Christ. You must come to the end of “self” before you can begin to live. The happiest day of my life was when I realized that my own ability, my own goodness, and my own morality were insufficient in the sight of God. I am not exaggerating when I say that my mourning was turned to joy, and my sighing into singing. Happy are they that mourn for the inadequacy of self, for they shall be comforted with the sufficiency of God.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, I know that apart from You I can do nothing of lasting value. Help me to come to the end of self and allow You to control the reins of my life.

Father God , I thank Thee......, I thank Thee......, I thank Thee......, for the love in sending only Your begotten Son, Jesus Christ in to this world. My Righteousness, my LORD, How can we repay You, for all Your goodness to us, we will lift up the cup of Salvation and call on Your Holy name. Amen!

Thank you, Jesus for your ultimate sacrifice. I will serve you all my days. Thank you, Dr. Graham, for your life of service and authentic example of a Christ follower.

Despite the fact that we live in a fallen world.... we are God's Holy Children. We have been purchased by the Saving Blood of Christ. There ought to be a predominately Joyous Spirit permeating from us because our Eternity is Guaranteed. We will live in the presence of our Heavenly Father and his Holy Son Jesus Christ. It doesn't get any better than that. Thank you Lord !!!

I was talking to a friend today that fed her mother her last meal this week end in the hospital. My friend was distraught and needed encouragement while waiting for her mother to meet her place of rest. I did so in reminding her to focus on Christ and God Almighty by what he accomplished for us at Calvary's cross. In our conversation I mentioned Billy Graham and my attending one of his Crusades. We talked of his position and favor he has. I also mentioned that though Billy has accomplished great works, he still has dark moments that are not easily to wrestle through as the rest of us who believe. Like a great quarter back who has many working defensively to protect him while observers watch him make his completions, Billy still puts his pants on one leg at a time and eats his food with a fork and a spoon (still I pray). I came later to read this daily devotion and could not help but think of the many who are involved in making just these BGEA devotion's possible for encouragement until Christ returns or we each reach the final resting place waiting until HE does return. Happy Thanksgiving BGEA and God bless Billy and his family during this season!
