The Great Act of Humility

March 27, 2013

. . . he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
–Matthew 23:12

In almost every instance in the Bible, as well as in life, pride is associated with failure, not success. We hear a great deal about the inferiority complex, but the superiority complex of pride is seldom spoken of. It was pride that caused the fall of Lucifer, and he became Satan, the devil. It was pride that led King Saul down to a shameful and untimely death. It was pride that caused Peter to deny his Lord.

The greatest act of humility in the history of the universe was when Jesus Christ stooped to die on the cross of Calvary. And before any man can get to heaven, he must kneel at the foot of the cross and acknowledge that he is a sinner, that he has broken the Ten Commandments of God, and that he needs the grace of God in Christ. No man can come proudly to the Savior.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, You suffered such humiliation and pain for me on the cross. I ask You, humbly, to forgive my pride and errant ways that nailed You there.

IS SO WONDERFUL THAT PRIDE LEADS TO A MANS FALL WHICH IS LESSON ENOUGH TO US

"Forsake not the public reading of scripture" Many people don't have Bibles, many people need 8 glasses of water each day. this also helps with medications to work better.

We are actually nothing, and unless we come to the end of ourselves Jesus can't work in and through us.

False humility is even more insidious. How often are we secretly proud, that we are more 'humble' than someone we may dislike? Or refuse to succeed, or help another succeed, because it might cause 'pride'?

Manuel says 3.27.2013, 2:14 p.m.

I just simply want to say if you could ask God if he could have his way with me.

Hi Janice - you're right, fear can sometimes look like arrogance; also can pain do the same, how the person may express. Only God knows our hearts. Ours is not to judge others, only to love as He loves. Amen

David says 3.27.2013, 12:35 a.m.

Pride, self and accomplishments contribute to the concept that we merit God's favor. Thank you, Jesus, that I now fully understand that heaven is a gift, not a reward.

MARK says 3.27.2013, 09:05 a.m.

Pride come,th before the fall ; Heaven and Earth shall pass away , but My words shall not pass away . [ Matt: 24:35 ]

Arrogance is a difficult condition of the heart and mind. I've been accused and guilty of the same. Sometimes fear looks arrogance. Only the Lord knows our hearts. Forgiveness came off a cross and out of a grave.

Annie says 3.27.2012, 6:18 p.m.

Thank you Joe.....! With much love and prayers.....! Yours in Christ, Amen.....!

Jonathan says 3.27.2012, 4:33 p.m.

Being Humble in HIS Light will allow us to hear HIS Whisper. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for always Leading. It's our duty to listen to HIS Whisper, for we don't know when HE will Whisper. Without humility, we may not be able to hear HIS Message.

Jordan says 3.27.2012, 3:58 p.m.

Jesus I thank you for dying on the cross for all of us sinners, even though we don't deserve it. Lord forgive me for all of my sins and help me to come closer to you each and everyday.

Judy says 3.27.2012, 11:38 a.m.

I that love this quote that I heard from Jill Briscoe: "I will be all that You need Me to be, when you need Me to be all that you need."When we, and our pride, get out of the way, God can do wondrous things through and in us.

George says 3.27.2012, 08:30 a.m.

It was my pride (arrogance) that lead me to an unhealthy lifestyle. But in the end it was Jesus that showed and saved me to a better life. Thank you Lord Jesus.

Gerry says 3.27.2012, 08:10 a.m.

My mistakes are too numerous to count and I remain a forgiven sinner. I have nothing to be proud of. However I have much to be thank for. Thank you Lord Jesus.

Joe says 3.27.2012, 07:38 a.m.

Amen Annie.

Bayo says 3.27.2012, 04:40 a.m.

Lord, i consider myself as nothing but a bunch of emptiness, all i've is what u've given me and what i am is what u've made me,help me to continue to humble myself that i may receive more grace from ur throne in Jesus name

Annie says 3.26.2012, 08:21 a.m.

Precious Lord Jesus, when You are nailed to the Cross, You showed Your ultimate humility.....Thank You LORD, You took my pride on that Cross.....I bow before You in all humility and with a contrite heart.....! Amen.....!

Osayuki says 3.25.2012, 09:22 a.m.

Like cancer,pride kills silently.Many times,we don't even know it.Lord have mercy!

Greg says 3.27.2011, 6:20 p.m.

I don't think its necessarily bad to be proud of what you have accomplished as it can serve as an inspiration to other to succeed as long as you acknowledge that God gave you the ability and perseverance to succeed.

Gerry says 3.27.2011, 07:35 a.m.

When I reflect back to a time when I did not know Christ as my Savior, I was mistakenly proud of things that I thought I accomplished. It is now abundantly clear that none of my apparent successes had anything to do with my own ablilties. God's caring hand was in every single one of them. Thank you Lord for your extraordary patience and love.

vonnie says 3.26.2011, 04:59 a.m.

We so often hear "all i have left is my pride" as though that is something. It isn't until we admit we have nothing acept our Lord Jesus Christ that we actually have anything at all!
