The Divine Standard

March 7, 2013

For salvation that comes from trusting Christ . . . is already within easy reach of each of us . . .
–Romans 10:8 (TLB)

Christ said there is a happiness in that acknowledgment of spiritual poverty which lets God come into our souls. Now, the Bible teaches that our souls have a disease. It causes all the troubles and difficulties in the world. It causes all the troubles, confusions, and disillusionments in your own life. The name of the disease is an ugly word. We don’t like to use it. It is “sin.” All of us have pride. We do not like to confess that we are wrong or that we have failed. But God says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” We have failed to live up to the divine standard. We must confess our sin as the first step to happiness, peace, and contentment.

Prayer for the day

Pride kept me so long from acknowledging my need of You, Lord. Each day, help me to realize I am nothing without You.

The Apostle Paul states that He has learned to be "happy" (or content) no matter which situation or trial that is before him. I pray to have the same attitude as Paul. Thank you Lord for his words. May God bless us when we sruggle. Amen

I can relate to what you're saying. I know how my parents raised me and when I went away to college, it seemed like I needed to form my own identity apart from the family or origin, but I can tell you, I came back. They will too.

Steve, continue to be a model for them and pray for them. God is in their hearts because you put Him there. Your children may have strayed but they will come back to God.

The sin of the flesh(lust) keeps me from reaching Godsdesire for me. I only get so close to Him, so that I can keep my sin.

Please pray for S.C. who has, because of pain and loss, walked away from GOD; please pray that he will see that JESUS will heal and restore him in every way. Thank you. Amen

Lord, Help me raise the standard of the cross in my life daily, and confess the sin that would keep me from being Your servant. Forgive me, and make me strong to serve.

As believers, we should never become complacent. We must continue to strive daily to overcome known, problem areas of sin in our lives. Satan is fully aware of our vulnerability and will attack those weaknesses. Remain aware, pray for God's strength.

I did not know the sin that I confessed to God over 32 years ago. Now as I grow older, I see His great and clear ways of walking Like Him, but I fall, and there is is, picking me up...May my paths be straight brfore me.Amen

Precious FATHER,save my husband. He goes through everyday paying no attention to his after life at all. He wont pay any attention to gospel on the TV ,or the fact that I go to church each Sunday by myself. He's 72 years old.

Rich and Steve, I am praying for you both. How blessed we are to be able to pray for one another. My son, Chris, is having severe mental problems and I ask for prayer for his safety and a return to good physical and mental health.

Jennifer says 3.7.2012, 09:26 a.m.

Steve, I too was one of those kids. I was raised in church, in a wonderful Christian family with a rich heritage. I was 20, returned at 28 due to prayer and God alone. I've never been more on fire for Christ! He will find them right where they are.

The verse and the article is so true. I was not just arrogant but very sinful over the years. I let God back into my life when I had physical problem, since then I have been a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. I feel very healthy and spiritually.

God bless you Rich as well as all his loving creation.

Gerry says 3.7.2012, 05:57 a.m.

We were all born into sin because of the original sin of Adam and Eve. However our Heavenly Father provided a way of forgiving us by the atoning death of his Holy Son . The great news is that we can confidently come before God and ask for forgiveness

Steve, have faith in the word, I know what you are talking about. I have 3 kids and I put them in Gods hands morning and night. They are his and he will bring them to the place he wants them. amen

Granny says 3.7.2011, 08:46 a.m.

To Steve, all you can do is pray for them. The Lord can bring them back. He can do anything.

Rich says 3.7.2011, 07:59 a.m.

Karen says 3.7.2011, 07:55 a.m.

Dear Steve, maybe they don't really want their current lifestyles. But the "world" can be an awfully enticing place at times. Keep loving them and remain firm in your faith. Pray always and never lose heart. And remember: Jesus has already overcome the world!

Gerry says 3.7.2011, 07:32 a.m.

Sin is such a perplexing, daily, ongoing, problem. No bible-believing Christian starts their day wanting to sin. However, somehow it doesn't usually take too long and without much warning, before we find ourselves doing, thinking, or saying something that we subsequently wish we had not. We must always try and do our very best not to sin but when we do fortunately if we are faithful to confess it, our Lord Jesus Christ who paid our sin-debt in full at Calvary is faithful to forgive us . Thank you precious Holy Savior.

sam says 3.7.2011, 07:22 a.m.

Pride is a sin which unknowingly occupies our heart and Satan makes us feel it is OK. One who realizes this and sweeps out pride with the broom of humility is a spiritual winner.

Steve says 3.5.2011, 08:59 a.m.

I have three wonderful children that my wife and I dedicated to Jesus when they where all young. They were brought up in a strong Christian home but now that they have reached the age of twenty and above they seem to have fallen back into the world. Our words of encouragement and life action have not countered their descent backward. How can we as parents help our children return to the Lord in their every day lives?
