The Lonely Servant's Life

March 5, 2013

So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord . . .
–1 Kings 17:5

As messengers of God, we will often lead lonely lives. “All men forsook me,” said Paul. It is a price we have to pay; there is a loneliness in the Gospel. Yet you will not be alone, because you will be ministered to by the Spirit of God, as Elijah was ministered to at the brook Cherith. A true messenger lives a burdened life. If he is the Lord’s vessel, he carries in his heart a burden for souls none can share but those who know it firsthand.

Prayer for the day

Just as Your Spirit took care of Elijah, I know I am not alone in Your service, almighty God.

I have been a lonely servant in the Deaf Prison Ministry for 12 years. The Deaf prisoners are very hunger for the Gospel. I pray to the Lord to open a new deaf prison organization and outreach to them for Christ. We need your help.

As we go about our business each day there are times when we can feel outnumbered. There is great comfort however in knowing that we have the Holy Spirit as our constant companion.

Thank you Reverend Graham, I so love you, and I so, so))) Love God! I remember the cross, and I look at these precious saints who are being killed for their faith right now for their love in Jesus, this brings me back into focus.

As a young pastor I thought every one would share my zeal for the lost! But this deep urge wasn't present in there heart! I thought because they were believers that was a given. But the burden was mine!

Surely Rev.Billy, I can fully comprehend the reason for Elijah's isolated lonely life as well as John the baptist whose life was always in the wilderness. I marvel, but God gives the grace. Thanks dear Billy. I love you.

We may feel alone at times but God never leaves us.

I agree with you Rev. Billy Graham! It is a price we have to pay as servants of God, but its worth it! We are not alone because the LORD sent His Promise to live with in us. The Holy Spirit. Thank you..... Thank You..... Thank You..... Amen!

Annie says 3.1.2012, 8:33 p.m.

How true you are Rev. Billy Graham! it is a heavy price we have to pay as servants of God, but it's worth it, because the LORD promised us, For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee (Isaiah 41:13).

My brother Tom told me when he feels alone he says " Lord you are enough for me today"

Hawaii says 3.5.2011, 4:58 p.m.

I agree with Sam, we need to let Jesus work through us to be the lights of the world in darkness. Sometimes it can be lonely, next to secular friends, but we do have our fellowship in the other children of the most high.

sam says 3.5.2011, 12:20 a.m.

In the darkest hours of our life will a beacon of light shine to dispel the darkness-- the Light of the world-- Jesus Christ.

Gerry says 3.5.2011, 07:17 a.m.

When you stand by your Christian beliefs and try to do what is right each day , there may be times, depending on where you are or what your doing, that you may feel alone. For example, you may be invited to attend a wedding and as the evening progresses many other guests begin to act in ways that make you uncomfortable as they begin to drink excessively, etc. There could be any number of other scenarios as well but you are not alone because the Holy Spirit of God resides in you permanently and will comfort and encourage you during these times . Be who you claim to be and stand firm even when your outnumbered.
