The best advice I can give you is to seek God’s will for your future. God knows all about you; after all, He created you and gave you all your gifts and abilities. But He also knows what is best for you—and because He loves you, He wants to help you discover His plan for your life. Why not seek it?

Yes, you probably could have been more diligent or focused during your college years; one reason I wanted to reprint your letter was to encourage students to take their studies more seriously. But you can’t change the past; you can only change the future. Begin today by turning to Jesus Christ and by a simple prayer of faith committing your life—and your future—into His hands.

Then ask God to guide you and help you know what He has in store for you. He may not show you where you’ll be twenty or forty years from now—but He will show you the next steps you need to take. Pray … seek advice from others … examine your interests and abilities … be patient… then trust God to show you His will.

Above all, don’t be satisfied with anything less than God’s will for your life. Always put Christ first, and everything else will fall into place—not just in your career, but in every other part of your life. The Bible says, “As for God, his way is perfect; the Lord’s word is flawless” (Psalm 18:30).
