Q:

My husband says he doesn't feel any need for the church or Jesus because he thinks he can make it into heaven on his own. I admit he's a good person, but how can I make him see this isn't enough, and that he needs Jesus in his life?

A:

One of the hardest persons to reach with the Gospel is someone who thinks they are good enough to get to heaven on their own. They don’t think they need Christ, nor do they see any need to confess their sins or depend on God in their daily lives.

But this kind of self-sufficiency is very dangerous spiritually — and the reason is because it hides one of the greatest sins of all: pride. The Bible warns, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). Their pride may be hidden; they may not even be aware of it. But a person who says he or she doesn’t need God is building their life on a foundation of pride — and it will not last.

As long as we compare ourselves to other people, we may think we’re better than they are, and God should reward us with eternal life. But when we compare our lives to God — who is absolutely pure and holy — we’ll realize just how far short we fall of His standard, which is perfection.

Pray for your husband, that God will convict him of his sin and help him see his need of Christ. But pray too for yourself, that you may be an example to him of Christ’s love and goodness. The Bible says, “Your beauty…. should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Peter 3:3-4).

THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT WE HAVE ALL SINNED AT ONE TIME OR THE OTHER AND SO WE ARE SHORT OF GODS GLORY. WE ARE NOT SO SURE THAT WE HAVE NOT OFFENDED OUR GOD SO WE NEED JESUS BLOOD TO WASH OUR SINS SO THAT WE CAN SURE TO ENTER HEAVEN. SO CONVINCE HIM THAT WE NEED JESUS TO ENTER HEAVEN.
