Q:

My family has been torn apart by drugs, divorce and other things, and I worry all the time about what's going to happen to them. I feel so helpless, and no matter what I try to do it doesn't seem to make any difference. Pray that I'll know what to do. I just don't have any hope.

A:

You carry a very heavy burden — and the most important thing I can tell you is that God cares about you and your family, and He doesn’t want you to carry your burden alone.

Instead, God wants you to turn your burden over to Him, and learn to trust Him to help you. Jesus’ promise is for you: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). How is this possible? It’s possible first of all because God is far greater than we are. No burden is too great for Him! It’s possible too because He loves us, and He wants to help us. By a simple prayer of faith ask Christ to come into your life today.

But Christ also can give us rest from our burdens because He knows all about our problems, and He can help us with them. No, I can’t promise that your family’s problems will suddenly vanish. But I can promise that God will show you ways you can help them — and even when you can’t, He’ll give you peace.

Christ gives us peace also as we learn to commit our problems to Him in prayer. Your family needs Christ; they need His forgiveness, and they need His life-changing power. Pray for them, that God will bring them to Himself and begin changing them by His Holy Spirit.

All this is correcct. Stay close to the Lord, and ask Him to forgive you at least every day. Remember that the Christian life is a walk, and a talk, Please aim to make your walk match your talk, AND do plenty of talking!

Bk: If you already are a Christian then stay faithful by studying the bible daily, praying, and working on the areas of weakness in your life. If you aren't yet a believer then by all means first accept Christ. Sometimes families need to see an example of someone changing within and growing in Christ. Stay faithful to God no matter what and keep praying for your family. Never give up on anyone and try not to be judgemental and overbearing. Grow in Christ for yourself and don't listen to sermons with others in mind and avoind giving them self-help books. It will surely take time but you will start to see some changes.Over the past 5 years I've seen changes in my whole family that could be considered nothing less than miraculous. Faith can move mountains and a strong faith comes from reading and studying the bible. If you are a Christian continually confess sins directly to God as you commit them in order to remain in fellowship with God. “If we confess our sins (directly to God) he is faithful and jsut to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1John 1:9.

Do you love God? Please read Romans 8:28,29. God works all things together for good to those who love Him and His purpose is that we be conformed so that we become like Jesus. Only God knows what it takes to make that happen. I have many trials and tribulations in my own daily life but it has given me great comfort to know God is in complete control of everything. God has promised wisdom to all who ask. Ask. It would be best if you talk to your Father one on one and turn all this grief over to Him.
