Q:

I've heard preachers say that we won't be bored in heaven because God will have work for us to do there, but won't we get tired then? I thought heaven was supposed to be a place of rest.

A:

One of the Bible’s greatest promises about heaven is that all the things that burden us or make us tired and weary on earth will be left behind and never trouble us again. The Bible says, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…. they will rest from their labor” (Revelation 14:13).

But the Bible also assures us that we won’t be bored in heaven! We won’t be sitting around on a cloud doing nothing — because God will have work for us to do. The last chapter of the Bible says that in heaven “his servants will serve him” (Revelation 22:3). Think of it: We will have the privilege of serving the God of the universe and doing His will!

And yet we won’t get tired, as we do here, because in heaven we will have new and perfect bodies — bodies like that of Christ after His resurrection. Although the Bible doesn’t go into detail, it’s clear that we will no longer be subject to the limitations and disabilities of this life. If we need rest from time to time for some reason, you can be sure God will give it to us.

The greatest truth about heaven, however, is that we can go there. Only one thing will keep us out of heaven, and that is our sin. But by His death for us and His resurrection Christ conquered sin and death, and opened heaven’s door for us. Are you trusting Him alone for your salvation?
