Q:

I'm old and sick and don't have much time left, and as I look back over my life I know it's been wasted. I thought I was having a good time, but now I realize it's too late and I'm not ready to meet God. Maybe someone will learn from my bad example.

A:

I too hope someone will learn from your life — because the worst thing that can happen to us is to come to the end of our life and realize we’ve wasted it and aren’t ready to meet God. We’ll stand before Him anyway — but by then it’ll be too late.

You can’t change the past, much as you wish you could. But listen: You can change the future! Right now, you have no hope — either for your remaining days on earth or for eternity. But it doesn’t need to be that way! The reason is because God still loves you, in spite of the way you’ve ignored Him and fought against Him. And because He loves you, He wants to forgive the past and give you hope for the future.

How is this possible? It’s possible for one reason: Jesus Christ died for you. If you had been the only person on earth who needed to be forgiven and saved, Jesus Christ still would have died for you. God loves you that much! The Bible’s words are true: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Don’t give in to hopelessness. Instead, by faith turn to Jesus Christ and open your heart and life to Him. God wants to forgive you and welcome you into His family forever — beginning today.

Jesus told a parable about a man who hired workers to work in his field. Some worked all day, others half a day and so on. Then he hired some to work the last minutes of the day. He paid them all the same wage. Early workers grumbled but the owner paid the late workers a full wage anyway. This illustrates that you will receive eternal life just like everyone who trusts Jesus. I welcome you to the kingdom of God!

JR, your life is not wasted! I use to think like you, because I have committed sins that are bad, but I guess we all did. HE is faithful and just, HE will forgive you, just accept HIM into you heart! JESUS is waiting for you to accept him, if you haven't already! We all are sinners, no one is perfect, only JESUS himself! I pray that you have accepted HIM! GOD loves you very much!

J.R. You are very lucky that God had spared your life for all those years, and now that you are old and sick, you know your life is almost over. I urge you to ask Christ right now and you would be very happy, what else have you got to lose???? Your career is over, most of your friends are gone, etc. I was warned and got saved at age 24, and it was not easy being a christian but at least that I have a job in me that if anything happens to me, I am ok

It sounds like you are absolutely ready to meet God or you wouldn't have written your troubling thoughts. All of us have wasted some degree of our lives pursuing sinful pleasures. Don't beat yourself up thinking you are worse than someone else, we are all sinners in Gods eyes. You can't change the past but please don't waste your eternal life. Jesus already paid the debt for your sin. Let Jesus in your heart and start living with joy! That would be a better example for people to learn from.
