If most of the people in our country are Christians, then why do we have so many problems? Aren't Christians supposed to make the world a better place? I'm not a Christian myself, and to be honest, I can't see that it would make any difference if I were one.

You are right about one thing: Christians are supposed to make a difference in the world. They aren’t to withdraw and let evil advance unopposed, nor are they to behave like everyone else. Jesus put it this way: “You are the salt of the earth…. You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-14).

But you are not correct in suggesting that being a Christian wouldn’t make any difference in your life. For one thing, a Christian knows that this world is not all there is to life, because ahead of us is all eternity with God in heaven. This gives us hope, even in the midst of the pain and confusion we all experience. The Bible says, “Why are you downcast, O my soul?… Put your hope in God” (Psalm 42:11).

Being a Christian would also make a difference in the way you live. Instead of living only for yourself, you’d begin to live for others as well. Instead of searching for happiness all the time, you’d begin experiencing the joy and peace only Christ can bring to our hearts.

In answer to the question, asked…Many that say they are Christian are not living the life of a Christian, rather they are not allowing the Holy Spirit of God to live in them and work through them. He (God the Holy Spirit) is what empowers us to make the difference. Within the Holy scriptures, Christ himself has said many will say Lord, Lord unto him but he will have to say to them I never knew you and to depart from him. I’m sure this will be with great regret for the Lord is meek and loving and not willing that anyone should perish. Many will because of our own decisions. As the man of God Dr. Graham has so stated “our decisions determine our destiny.” In other words our response to the Lord’s directions before and after we accept Him as our personal savior. Christians have made a difference and will continue to make a difference. I suggest to you who have posted the genuine earnest question, if there were no Christians in the world, it would be an even darker more miserable place. Try Christ for yourself, he says “…Oh taste and see that the Lord is good…” Try him watch how he makes a difference in your life and let him use you to inspire or re-inspire other professing Christians to action. God Bless you.

As long as we live in this world, we'll still have problems. Jesus says in John 16:33 In this world we'll have tribulations but fear not I have overcome the world. God can help us overcome our problems for He never leaves us nor forsake us.
