Q:

If angels are real, then why don't they keep us from getting hurt? I was in an auto accident a few months ago and ended up in the hospital for three weeks. Where was my guardian angel while all that was happening?

A:

God hasn’t promised that we’ll never get hurt or sick, or have other problems in life. Job—who knew what it was to go through hard times—wisely said that “man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7).

But God has promised to be with us when hard times come—and one way He does this is through the protection of His angels. You may not see them or even be aware of their presence—but they still were looking after you during this accident and protecting you from even more harm. They also have been with you to help you in your recovery. Instead of doubting God’s care and wondering if He has abandoned you, may your heart instead be filled with thanksgiving.

Admittedly, we don’t always understand why bad things happen to us; someday, all our questions will be answered, but not yet. But by faith we know that God’s promise is true: “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). This is God’s promise to every believer.

The most important way God’s angels do this is by safeguarding our souls from Satan’s fury until death, when they usher us safely into God’s presence forever. Do you have this assurance in your heart? Do you know for sure that if you had died in this accident, you would have gone to heaven? You can, by giving your life to Christ today.

Six yrs ago my son was in a motorcycle accident and laid in a field through the night until he was found the next morning. I feel in my heart that God’s angels stood guard over him and allowed him to survive with only a broken collar bone and some minor brain trauma. The emts said that he would have been gone within the hour if he has not been found. We serve a mighty God and his band of angels.

Thank you for this wonderful daily devotional study. I’ve been following Jesus for several decades now, have heard your voice crying out to the lost to come to Christ since I was a child and praise God for the faithful life you have lived before the world. Your family has been a blessing to so many. Thank you for trusting God and not putting your confidence in men. Your faith, has helped my faith and confidence grow.

My husband was in an accident about 12 years ago. He was on a motorcycle and ended up under a logging truck. His bike was crushed and under the front tire, but only his ankle was injured. I always said God had some battered angles that day wrapping themselves around my husband protecting him. My husband has been through many physical issues since, but I believe God has been working on our family through my husband problems. God is alive and working everyday!!

My wife was in a roll-over car accident several years ago and broke her neck for which she needed surgery. She could have become a quadriplegic but God and her guardian angel saved her that ordeal and blessed our family simultaneously. There is no doubt in my mind that God is always with us. May He continue to bless us all.

Very insightful in all we do and experience God is present in us. It is our faith that pulls us through our pains, losses and grievances and restores us to God’s glory. The angels are there to shield us but our faith restores us.
