Q:

I believe in God, but where does Jesus fit into the picture? My friend says it isn't enough to believe in God, but says I need to believe in Jesus also. Why?

A:

Your question came to me just as Christians around the world were preparing to celebrate Good Friday and Easter – two events that remind us once again who Jesus Christ was and why we need to believe in Him.

Let me explain; Jesus Christ (the Bible tells us) wasn’t just another human being; He wasn’t even just a great religious leader. The Bible tells us that He was God in human flesh – fully man, but also fully God. This may be hard for us to understand – but it’s still true: God entered this world and walked among us in the person of Jesus Christ. Do you want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus Christ, for He was God in human flesh.

But why did Christ come? He came for one reason: to bring us back to God. We were created to walk with God and enjoy His presence forever. But we have sinned – and because of that, we are separated from God and deserve only His judgment. But God still loves us, and Christ came to erase the barrier of sin that stands between us and God. He did this by dying on the cross as the final and complete sacrifice for our sin. We need forgiveness – and Christ made this possible by His death and resurrection.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Now God offers us the gift of eternal life through Christ – and it can be yours, as you open your heart and life to Him and trust Him alone for your salvation.
