Does each person have a guardian angel that watches over them? I'd like to think so, but if we do have a special angel protecting us, then why do we still have accidents and things like that?

Whenever I’m asked why bad things happen to us, I have to admit that I don’t have a full answer to that question. Evil is real, and none of us are free from its devastation.

But the Bible does tell us that for the believer nothing happens outside God’s control–and yes, if we know Christ, His angels continually watch over us. The Bible says that God “will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). It also teaches that the angels–although they are largely unseen–watch over us and work for our good. The Bible says, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14).

Rather than only one angel, therefore, God surrounds us with a host of angels to protect us and go before us. Even when hard times come, Satan can never snatch us away from their protection–and some day they will escort us safely to heaven. The reality of God’s angels should give us great confidence in the Bible’s promises.

While the angels are real, we are not to become preoccupied with them or to worship them. Only God is worthy of our worship, and only Christ saves us. Trust Him alone as your Savior, for “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

  2. Ann Hall says:

The Bible teaches us that the Angels can only act at the Word of God, so while they watch over us, we need to speak God’s Word over ourselves and our family. Then we are protected, scriptures as,”no weapon form against me or my family can prosper,” We are under the shelter of Almighty god”, The Blood of Jesus, covers me and my family.” He goes before us and is our rear guard.” Saying these and others each day enables their protection.

  4. Kathleen Smith says:

Does the Bible say whether or not we are allowed to speak or talk to our guardian angels? I see where many times angels have spoken to mortals but are we allowed to just talk to our angels? Say THANK you or good morning or good night or anything like that? Just talk directly to them?

    1. Sharon Nelson says:

I believe we offer thanks and praise to God, for the protection and guidance He gives, using angels as His agents. Only God has the power and authority to order and enable the actions carried out by His angels. To God be the glory!

  5. Theresa Coleman says:

With an all powerful, all knowing, all seeing Father in Heaven, and a Savior Jesus Christ, both of whom are the very reason for love’s existence. ..It seems only sensible to believe their would be angels representative of that love…keeping a close eye as we journey through the various twists and turns this life brings! I feel confident that the Father has His angels keeping us comforted during many of those times…as He surely knows we, His children, are only human, with the shortcomings that accompany that. I love knowing that one, on His behalf, are closeby! Thank you this response to, I’m sure, a question of many!

  6. Jan Cartwright says:

It seems so easy for us humans to get side-tracked from our goal…Jesus and serving Him is our goal. It’s nice to think we have an angel but in reality, who is stronger, God or His angel? I’ll take comfort in knowing God loves and protects me.

  7. Mark A. Brown says:

What a beautiful Savior we have, let everything that has breath praise His name!

    1. Lisa says:

If you stop and pay attention, you will know that you have an angel. That voice in your head that tells you that danger is ahead, and take a different road to your destination. Then to later find out a major car accident happened on the road you originally were going to take. I feel my angel around me all the time. You just need to pay attention.
