Q:

I know you say a person's life is incomplete without God, but I don't agree. I think the opposite is true. If I had God in my life, He'd just mess it up because He'd make me stop doing some of the things I enjoy doing right now. What if I don't want to change?

A:

You’re right about one thing: If you knew God, He definitely would make a difference in your life. We can’t take God seriously but at the same time ignore Him or act as if He didn’t exist.

But let me ask you a question: Have you ever asked yourself why God would want to change your life? The reason is simple: God knows that when we ignore Him and live without Him, eventually we end up only hurting ourselves — and He doesn’t want that to happen, because He loves us. We even end up as slaves to our own appetites and desires.

I realize you may not see things this way right now. But when we cast aside God’s moral values and live only for ourselves and our pleasures, our lives are unstable and empty, and we never know the lasting peace God wants us to have. If we’re honest, we’ll end up saying with Job in the Old Testament, “I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil” (Job 3:26).

But Christ offers you another way — the way of peace and meaning and joy. You aren’t here by chance; God made you, and He put you here for a reason: to know Him and discover His will for your life. Don’t go down the wrong road any longer, but turn to Christ and put your life into His hands. His promise is true: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
