Q:

All my friends think I'm happy and have my life together, and maybe it seems true when we're at the gym or a sports bar. But down inside, I know I'm just a big fake. I've never thought about God much, but maybe I need to. Can God do anything for me?

A:

Yes, God can do something for you—and He wants to, because He cares about you and He doesn’t want you to go through life empty and without any real purpose.

You see, God made you for Himself. You aren’t here by accident or by chance; you are here because God put you here. Furthermore, He put you here for a reason: that you might know Him and love Him and walk with Him throughout all eternity. The Bible says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

This is why our lives are empty when we ignore God. To put it another way, when we leave Him out of our lives, there is an empty space left in our souls that nothing else can fill. Yes, we try to fill it in all sorts of ways (as you are doing)—but in the end, the Bible says, “all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 1:14).

But listen: God loves you, and He has done everything possible to bridge the gap and bring you back to Himself! He did this by coming into this world in the person of His Son, who gave His life for you. Why did Christ do this? For one reason: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). By a simple act of faith ask Jesus to come into your life today, and then make it your goal to walk with Him every day.
