Q:

I accidently sat next to someone on a bus recently who talked with me about God, and I ended up asking Jesus to come into my life. I wasn't brought up in a religious home, so this is all new to me. What do I do now?

A:

It was no accident that you sat next to this person; it was by God’s appointment! I’m thankful this person was willing to share Jesus with you, and that you responded by asking Him to come into your life. It’s the most important decision you’ll ever make.

What should you do now? First, understand what’s happened to you. For one thing, God has now adopted you into His family, and you are now His child forever. When doubts or discouragement come, stop and remind yourself: “I am now God’s child. He loves me, and I belong to Him!”

In addition, realize that all your sins have been forgiven, and some day you will go to be with Christ in heaven forever. Furthermore, God has now come to live within you by His Spirit, and He will always be with you to help and encourage you. The Bible promises that nothing “in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).

Then take steps to grow in your faith. Ask God to guide you to a church where Christ is preached, and you can enjoy the friendship and encouragement of other believers. In addition, make prayer and the Bible part of your life every day; they are spiritual “food” for your soul. Finally, let others know of your faith in Christ, especially your family. May they see Christ in you, and some day put their faith in Him.

You can boldly share your faith.
