Undoubtedly your friend simply meant that God had given her a deep inner conviction about which way He wanted her to go — a conviction that was just as real as if God had spoken to her in an audible voice.

Behind her comment, however, are two important truths that I hope you’ll come to understand. The first is that God loves us — and because He loves us, He wants us to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. For example, in the Bible God has given us certain moral rules to follow (such as the Ten Commandments), not because He wants to make our lives miserable, but because He knows what is best for us. He also knows each of us personally and wants to direct us in the right way as we make decisions.

The second truth is that God wants to guide us as we seek His will. I’m sure your friend prayed earnestly about these decisions, and asked God to show her which way He wanted her to go. And He did! The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Don’t try to make your way through life without God. He loves you so much He sent His Son to die for you. Ask Christ to come into your life, and then seek His will in everything you do. Remember: His way is always best.
